Vanderbilt Downs Ole Miss in Women's Basketball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jennifer Holmes came off the bench to score 16 points and lead Vanderbilt over Ole Miss 77-58 in Southeastern Conference action Sunday. Vanderbilt improved to 7-6 on the year and 1-1 in the SEC, while the Lady Rebels dropped to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in the SEC.

Katie Janky and Beth Ostendorf added 11 points each for the Commodores. Holmes also led Vandy with eight rebounds, followed by Janky and Zuzana Klimesova with six apiece.

Jennie Gadd led Ole Miss with a season-high 12 points, followed by Tarsha Bethley with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Gadd also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.

To begin the game, Ole Miss jumped out to a 6-0 lead, only to see Vanderbilt come back and take a 12-8 advantage. The Commodores eventually went up 35-24, but Lesli Vollrath's three-pointer cut the lead to eight. Vanderbilt added two more points to take a 37-27 halftime lead.

The Commodores opened the second half by scoring the first six points of the half to build a 16-point lead. The Lady Rebels trimmed the lead to eight at the 14:58 mark, but that was as close as Ole Miss would get. Vanderbilt shot 46.2 percent in the second half, hitting 12-of-26 shots, while Ole Miss made 7-of-33 field goals for 21.2 percent.

Ole Miss returns to action Thursday as the Lady Rebels host Mississippi State, 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. The teams tip off at 7 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
