Women's Basketball Defeats Slovakian National Team

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team, led by three players in double figures, defeated the Slovakian National Team 100-66 in its first exhibition game of the season Saturday at Tad Smith Coliseum.

Newcomer Frankie Boyd of Ethel, scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lady Rebels. Sophomores Becky Myatt and Stephanie Murphy scored 13 and 12 points respectively. Junior Sinissia Wysinger had nine points and eight boards, while Tarsha Bethley and Lesli Vollrath tallied nine points and seven rebounds each in the winning cause.

The Slovakians were led by Lucia Hostynova who went 10-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range for 26 points on the night.

With a 10 point lead and nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Lady Rebels went on a 15-4 run at the end of the half and led by 16 going into the break.

Boyd nailed a jumper and then Myatt stole the ball and hit a bucket to start the second half as the Lady Rebels mounted a 23 point lead and never looked back.

The Lady Rebels shot 46 percent from the field and 73 percent from the charity stripe, while the Slovakians shot 40 percent from the floor and 69 percent from the free throw line.

The Lady Rebels will host the Mississippi All-Stars in their final exhibition game of the year, Thursday Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. Ole Miss will open the regular season Nov. 16 at 5:00 p.m. against Clemson.
