OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss track and field standout Savante' Stringfellow will represent the United States in the men's long jump Sunday evening at the 13th-annual Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The long jump is scheduled for the evening session of Sunday's track and field action beginning at 6:00 p.m. CST.

"We're really excited for Savante', especially since the majority of the team is made up of professionals," said Ole Miss head track and field coach Joe Walker. "It's a great opportunity for a young budding star like Savante'."

Stringfellow left for Winnipeg on Wednesday and will be in the Canadien Province's capital for Friday's Opening Ceremonies.

He qualified for the U.S. team after placing third in the long jump at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., back in June. The former Jackson Provine High School product will also compete at the World Championships in Seville, Spain in August.

Stringfellow is the first-ever Ole Miss athlete to compete in the Pan Am Games and will be the second Rebel to compete in the World Championships. Five-time Ole Miss All-American George Kersh ran in the 800 meters at the 1991 World Championships.

Stringfellow concluded his sophomore season this past spring, capturing the Southeastern Conference long jump title and placing third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn All- America honors. His personal-best mark of 26-7 1/4 ranks second on the Ole Miss all-time performance list. Stringfellow also earned All-America honors during the indoor season by helping the Rebels' 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
