OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels went through their first day of full squad, two-a- day practices under first-year head coach David Cutcliffe and his staff Tuesday.
The Rebels worked out for 90 minutes in the morning before coming back for two hours of practice late in the afternoon.
Coach Cutcliffe was pleased with the tempo of the evening workout, despite the humid conditions.
"I thought we got better this afternoon," Cutcliffe said. "Our tempo definitely picked up from this morning. The humidity was tough, and we had a lot of guys push through it."
Both offensive and defensive units worked out in both sessions, spending a great deal of time on skills. Cutcliffe also began implementing some of his offensive schemes as the Rebels spent some of the afternoon practice working in seven-on-seven pass drills.
Coach Cutcliffe was pleased with the first unit's ability to pick up where they left off in spring practices.
"It's hard to tell on the first day how much the returning guys retained from the spring," Cutcliffe said. "I thought in certain instances you could tell some people in our first unit were further along than others. I'm not completely sold that our backups are where they need to be. It's going to be critical that they develop."
The Rebels will continue two-a-days through next Tuesday. The team's first day in full pads will be Friday.
