OXFORD, Miss. - Checking into the dorm and receiving physical exams highlighted Wednesday activity at Ole Miss as head football coach David Cutcliffe greeted 22 players, which included 1999 signees and new walk-ons.

Cutcliffe announced that two signees, running back-defensive back Kimario Hentz of Batesville, Miss., and defensive lineman Dannie Snyder of Eudora, Ark., did not report since they did not meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements. One other player unable to report Wednesday was defensive back Demetric Wright of Courtland, Miss., whose status is still under review. Wright is unable to report until his eligibility becomes known at a later date.

"I'm excited about this class," Cutcliffe said, noting that two junior college walk-ons, wide receiver Michael Slater of Vicksburg, Miss., and defensive back Kevin Farmer of Courtland, Miss., also reported on Wednesday. Slater played at Hinds and Farmer played at Northwest.

"We're looking forward to getting everyone on the field Friday and working with them," Cutcliffe said. "I'm also anxious to hear what the trainer has to say after the physicals."

Thursday's activity for the players will be a full day of academic orientation. Two non-contact practices are scheduled both Friday and Saturday.

"From a football standpoint, we'll get in some good workouts, especially when it comes to being able to evaluate what kind of condition we're in," Cutcliffe said.

With the exception of the quarterbacks, players will work on both sides of the ball.

"This will allow us to get a good evaluation of them athletically to see where they might best have a chance early to contribute to the team," Cutcliffe said.

"Outside of that, you're trying to teach the basic fundamentals of your system and break them into what practice sessions are going to be like. Although we have only two days to work, it is beneficial, because they wouldn't know what to expect if they had to wait until the returning members of the team got here."

Returning players will report Sunday, followed by physical exams and orientation on Monday. Two-a-days for the combined squad will begin Tuesday.
