Women's Volleyball Drops SEC Opener To Alabama, 3-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After taking the first game 15-13, the Ole Miss Lady Rebels lost three consecutive games 14-16, 5-15, 8-15 to Alabama to drop a tough match to open the 1999 Southeastern Conference schedule.
The Lady Rebels drop to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the SEC, while Alabama ups its record to 7-6 and 1-0 in conference play.
In the hard fought four game loss, the Lady Rebels jumped out to the early 3-0 lead in the first game before the Crimson Tide rallied back to tie the game at five, six, nine, twelve and thirteen. Ole Miss took the lead for good and picked up the game on a kill by freshman Sarah Lansden.
Game two was just as tight as the first but saw the Crimson Tide rally from being down game point to take the game 16-14. The game saw seven lead changes and nine ties.
The Lady Rebels came back to score the first three points in game three before the Tide charged back on a 15-2 run to close out game three, including 11 unanswered points after a 4-4 tie.
After a 4-4 tie to start game four, the Tide went on an 8-0 run before the Lady Rebels answered with four points, but couldn't hang on as the Tide went on to the 15-8 victory and the match.
The Lady Rebels were led by junior Kira Zschau with 15 kills and 12 digs, the only double-double performance by the Lady Rebels in the match. Posting double digit kill marks were senior Lauren Dorcheus and sophomore Jaime Burns. Junior Renata Nowacki tied a career high with three service aces while racking up 10 digs. Freshman Sarah Lansden also posted double digit digs numbers with 11.
The Lady Rebels now travel to Auburn, Ala. to take on the Lady Tigers in another SEC match, Sunday at 2 p.m. While Ole Miss leads the overall series with Auburn, 16-12, the Lady Rebels are looking for their first win over the Lady Tigers since 1995.
