Wade's World II

Sept. 8, 1999

Ole Miss offensive lineman Todd Wade gives you an in depth perspective of the view from the trenches all season long in Wade's World.

On the Memphis game:
"We didn't play up to our potential. We moved the ball pretty efficiently, but when it came down to it, I think the offensive line had a drop off in its technique. We may have been a little uptight going in with it being the first game of the year and our first game with a wide-open offense. In the Independence Bowl we had a more simple game plan. I expect a 100-percent improvement this week. Individually, I felt it was probably one of the worst games I've played, so I demand a 100-percent improvement for myself this week. I'm going to work extra hard this week and I plan on having the offensive line win back respect.

"We didn't give up any sacks and we had a 100-yard rusher. That's always good, but we could have played so much better. It almost made us sick watching the films on Monday and see how sloppy we played. When you turn the ball over five times you'd expect to lose the game, luckily we didn't. Now we need to look forward and not look back. I'm looking forward to the Arkansas State game and for us improving this week.

On the Arkansas State game:
"We owe it to the defense this week. If they don't get the shutout (against Memphis), we lose the game. I couldn't imagine starting off the season 0-1, especially with our expectations. Everybody on the offense is going to do their part, and the defense just needs to keep doing what it's doing. I think everything is going to turnaround for the offense this weekend.

"I'm looking forward to being back home and playing. The stadium looks great. It's the best I've ever seen it. I expect a full crowd."

On having his brother (freshman Justin Wade) suited up and on the sidelines last Saturday: "I never got to talk to him during the game, but when I came to the sideline he was always encouraging me. He had a good time for his first game."
