OXFORD, Miss. - Following a sweep at the Kickoff Klassic to open the season and a second place finish at the Saluki Invitational last weekend, the Ole Miss men's track team entered the national rankings at 21st this week.
In the weekly poll published by Trackwire Online, a website dedicated to the promotion of NCAA track and field, the Rebels were ranked 21st along with UCLA, Baylor, TCU, Missouri, Oregon, Illinois State and Indiana State. Ole Miss is one of eight ranked men's track teams in the Southeastern Conference joining Florida, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
With a jump of 25-0.25 (7.68m) last weekend, Savante' Stringfellow provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The junior from Jackson, Miss., also ranks fourth in the NCAA in the long jump for 2000 behind a pair of long jumpers from Alabama and one from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
In both meets this season, Stringfellow has met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark, winning the long jump competition at the Saluki Invitational and placing second at the Kickoff Klassic.
The men's and women's teams will be in competition again on Friday at the SEC Quadrangular in Fayetteville, Ark.
