Lady Rebel Tennis Team Shuts Out Stetson

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team shut out Stetson, 9-0, in Saturday's dual match at the Women's Sports Complex. The No. 7 nationally-ranked Lady Rebels improve to 2-0 in match play.
Ivona Mihailova, ranked 14th in the nation, was perfect on the day. In singles, the senior rolled past Stetson's Lindsey Wyeth, 6-0, 6-0, and in doubles, she joined her twin, Irena, to blank Julie Dougherty and Jennifer Parsons, 8-0.
At No. 3 singles, Mariana Eberle fought past Analia Longoni, 6-3, 6-2. In doubles, Eberle teamed with Celeste Frey to take out Longoni and Taryn Lynn, 6-3, 6-0.
"I was proud of the play of Ivona Mihailova and Mariana Eberle," said Ole Miss head coach Jerry Montgomery. "They played with great intensity and purpose from start to finish in singles and doubles."
Also in singles, Frey defeated Lynn, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1, while Alesya Ignatieva at No. 4 and Irena Mihailova at No. 5 each won, 6-0, 6-1. Camilla Gould sealed the Ole Miss victory with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6.
At No. 3 doubles, Ignatieva and Gould battled past Wyeth and Jennifer Parsons, 8-4, to close out the match.
"One of our goals today was to save the best for last, and we did," Montgomery said. "We needed to finish stronger and play doubles with more intensity. You can see we finished strong.
"We have a big match next Saturday against New Mexico, and we'll need the support of our fans to pull that one out."
The Lady Rebels host New Mexico Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
