OXFORD, Miss. - Amber Watts, a preseason Dandy Dozen from Hinds AHS, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss women's basketball program beginning in the 2001-02 academic year, Lady Rebel head coach Ron Aldy announced Thursday.
"We are extremely excited about Amber Watts joining our Lady Rebel team and family," Aldy said. "She possesses tremendous potential to be a very good post player in this league. She brings athleticism and is a great shot blocker. Amber has the desire to learn and develop into the kind of player that we are going to need to help bolster our post position. We are looking forward to working with her and her being a Lady Rebel."
A 6-3 center/forward, Watts averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds 4 steals, and 8 blocked shots per game as a junior last year leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 24-11 record.
Watts recorded a career-high 12 blocks in a game against Natchez Cathedral last year and blocked a club record 20 shots this summer at the AAU Nationals, while playing for the Mean Green Machine.
Watts is the first signee of the 2001-02 class for the Lady Rebels.
