OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team had its 11 game winning streak come to an end as Tennessee Tech handed the Lady Rebels a 71-56 win Sunday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum. The Lady Rebels dropped to 11-1, while Tennessee Tech improved to 7-4.
"It seemed like we were in a rut the entire game," head coach Ron Aldy said. "We couldn't hit any shots or make any stops on defense. They (Tennessee Tech) executed and shot well from the perimeter. We couldn't muster up enough effort to change what was happening in the game, to put us in a position to win. We didn't come to play and they did."
Senior guard Becky Myatt did accomplish two milestones in the loss, becoming the all-time three-point leader at Ole Miss with 198 career threes. She passed former All-SEC performer Regan Seybert, who had 194 from 1994-97.
Myatt also became the 19th Lady Rebel to score 1,000 points in a career with her bucket at the 2:03 mark of the second half. She finished with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting including four threes. Myatt, who now has 1,004 points, played 39 minutes in the game.
Tennessee Tech led 33-31 at halftime, but Becky Myatt's three-pointer at the start of the second half gave Ole Miss a 34-33 lead. That was the last time they would lead as the Golden Eaglettes used a 21-2 run to take an 18 point lead, 54-36 at the 13:34 mark. The closest Ole Miss would get the rest of the way, was 11 (58-47) with 4:34 left on a three-pointer by Chandra Dorsey.
Ole Miss shot just 33.3 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from the charity stripe. Tennessee Tech finished at 44.9 percent and 73.9 from the free throw line. They also shot 41.7 percent from behind the arc, hitting 10-of-24 threes.
Janet Holt led the Golden Eaglettes with 22 points on 8-of-12 from the field. Allison Clark hit five of Tech's 10 threes for 20 points.
The only other player in double figures for the Lady Rebels, was Sherika Wright, who had 11 points and dished out seven assists. Myatt also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in the loss. The Lady Rebels will open SEC play Sunday, Jan. 7, against Vanderbilt in Nashville. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
