OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 7 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team held off a resilient BYU team for a 6-0 win Tuesday afternoon at the Women's Sports Complex. With the win, the Lady Rebels move to 4-0 on the year.

Seniors Celeste Frey and Ivona Mihailova posted convincing wins to give the Lady Rebels a quick 2-0 lead. Frey, ranked No. 6 in the nation, rebounded from Sunday's loss to down BYU's Jodi Richardson 6-2, 6-0. Mihailova, ranked No. 14, won comfortably over Liza Khoudoiarova 6-3, 6-4.

Four of the six matches went three sets, including 30th-ranked freshman Julie DeRoo, who defeated 22nd-ranked Eline Chiew 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 at the No. 1 position as the Lady Rebels took a 3- 0 lead.

The Lady Rebels' other freshman Mira Radu, held off Tara Ferguson 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles to make it 4-0, and then senior Mariana Eberle clinched the win coming back to beat Dominque Reynolds 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Alesya Ignatieva defeated Kim Kelly 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles for the sweep. Doubles were not played.

"We knew this match would be tough," head coach Jerry Montgomery said. "BYU has a great tradition and they know how to win. I was impressed with the way my team responded to the challenge and finished the job. This will help us down the road as we get into SEC play."

Frey, Mihailova, Radu and Eberle leave Wednesday for Dallas, Texas, to compete in the third grand slam of the year, the Rolex National Indoor Championships, featuring the nation's top players. The rest of the team will be competing in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
