OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams finish gearing up for the Southeastern Conference Championships in two weeks with their final regular season meet this Friday at the LSU Twilight Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
This will be the third time this season that the Rebels and Lady Rebels take on LSU, with the Lady Rebels having defeated the top-ranked Lady Tigers at the SEC Quad meet before falling to them at the LSU Invitational.
The Rebels also came away victorious against the ninth-ranked Tigers at the SEC Quad before falling at the LSU Invitational.
This will be the last meet in preparation for the SEC Championships next weekend. The indoor championships will be held at the new indoor track and field complex at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Ole Miss participated in the last meet held in the old facility earlier this season.
The Rebels continue to fair well in the SEC, placing four athletes within the top ten in four events this season. Junior All-American Savante' Stringfellow leads the way for the men with a second place ranking in the long jump in both the SEC and in the nation. He is the only Ole Miss athlete automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in March. Stringfellow also ranks ninth in the SEC in the high jump.
Senior Kyle Wallace currently ranks fifth in the SEC in the pole vault, while freshman James Shelton ranks eighth in the conference and 32nd in the nation with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 60 meters. Junior Kino Mosley ranks 10th in the conference in the long jump, but also has an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and ranks 23rd in the nation.
On the women's side, junior All-American Teneeshia Jones leads the way. She has provisionally qualified for two events, ranking 6th in the SEC and 15th nationally in the 60 meters and 7th in the SEC and 18th nationally in the 200 meters. She also ranks 10th in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior Brandy Barnett has picked up the other Lady Rebel provisional qualifying mark with her school record high jump earlier this season. She now ranks third in the conference and 17th nationally in the high jump this season.
On the conference level, several Lady Rebels have made their mark. Sophomore Chika Chuku leads the way with a fifth place ranking in the 800 meters, while freshman Cindy Bowling ranks eighth in the high jump and senior Tisha Parker ranks 10th in the long jump.
The SEC Indoor Championships will be held February 26-27, while the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 10-11. Both events will be held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
