Softball Goes 1-1 At Oklahoma adidas Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Ole Miss softball team split the first team two games at the Oklahoma Adidas Invitational on Friday.
Ole Miss (5-8) beat Southwest Missouri State 8-3 in the first game of the day and lost to No. 8 Oklahoma 12-4 in the second game.
The Sooners put four runs up in the top of the second, but the Rebels answered in the bottom of the inning on Mandy Shklar's solo home run. Oklahoma increased its lead to 7-1 with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Ole Miss got a run back when Shklar scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 7-2. After the Sooners made it 9-2 with two runs in the top of the sixth, Ole Miss again closed the gap in the bottom of the inning.
Swinney led off the sixth with a solo home run to rightfield and Kaci Coffee scored on a fielder's choice. Ole Miss was unable to pull closer to the Sooners and Oklahoma added three more runs in the top of the seventh for the final 12-4 margin.
In game one, after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning the Rebels responded by pounding out eight runs on nine hits to cruise to an 8-3 victory.
Ole Miss jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning when freshman Amanda Lehotak, who went 3-for-4 and had three runs batted in, drove in Mandy Shklar and Jessica Hamilton. Ole Miss tied the game in the third inning when Heather Swinney scored on an error by the Bears.
The Rebels took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Kara Chapman singled to start the inning and scored on a Rachel Davenport sacrifice. Lehotak reached on a fielder's choice and scored after a fielding error by the leftfielder.
Ole Miss added to its lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. After reaching on an error, Jamie Cummings scored on Lehotak's third hit of the day. With two outs and Lehotak on second, Swinney connected on her first home run of the season to give the Rebels an 8-3 lead.
Freshman Lindsay Price picked up her first collegiate victory after she relieved starter Jennifer Hughes in the fourth inning. Price pitched four shutout innings and allowed only three hits.
