OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team opened spring practices Friday afternoon with a two-hour workout. Head coach David Cutcliffe, who is preparing for his second full season at the helm of the Rebels, said he was pleased with the team's effort in the first practice.
"I thought it was a good start," Cutcliffe said. "I know we had good tempo. I thought our mental retention from the fall was also good."
Working in shorts and without pads, the players worked within their position and later split into offensive and defensive units, focusing primarily on skills and conditioning. Coach Cutcliffe said the team looked physically and mentally prepared for the first workout.
"I thought our team practiced hard and did a good job of preparation for today's practice," Cutcliffe said. "We ran more offense today than we did all last spring. Defensively, all the things you look for are there."
Today was the first of 15 spring practices for the Rebels, culminating in the Red-Blue Game on April 1.
