OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss (13-9, 2-3 SEC) will look to end a three-game losing streak Friday night when the Rebels host the Vanderbilt Commodores (10-12, 0-5 SEC) in the first of a three-game weekend series. Friday's and Saturday's game are both slated for a 6:30 p.m., and Sunday's series-finale is set for 1:30 p.m.
After dropping two games to Tennessee last weekend, the Rebels fell 9-2 at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday. Senior right-hander Jeff McAvoy will look to halt the slide as he is scheduled to take the hill in the series-opener. He is 4-2 on the season with a 5.17 ERA, and his loss last Friday to the Volunteers was his first at home since April 4, 1998 against South Carolina.
Freshman right-hander Brett Young (0-0, 6.18 ERA) is slated to start Saturday for the Rebels, as sophomore left-hander Nathan Lyons will miss his second straight start due to a sore arm. Lyons did not pitch last weekend against Tennessee but may be able to rejoin the rotation when Ole Miss travels to Kentucky next weekend. Sunday's starter for the Rebels is still to be determined.
Vanderbilt is scheduled to throw junior southpaw Andy Beal (2-3, 3.48) on Friday, followed by sophomore right-hander Chris Maultsby (0-2, 5.54 ERA) on Saturday, and senior right-hander Damon Yee (3-2, 2.54 ERA) on Sunday.
Tickets for this weekend series are still available and can be purchased by calling the Ole Miss ticket office at 662-915-7167, and they can be purchased on game day at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field Ticket Office. Tickets for seating in the new left field lounge area are being sold for two dollars.
