Track And Field Teams Finish Third At SEC Quadrangular

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams finished third at the SEC Quadrangular at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S. C. Saturday afternoon.

Both teams finished behind host South Carolina, who won both events, and second place Arkansas. The women's did finish ahead of Vanderbilt, which does not have a men's team.

Chad Dixon and John Frierson were the big winners on the men's side. Dixon won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and placed second in the 3,000 meters, while Frierson won the hammer throw and finished second in the shot put.

The Rebels did get several second place finishes. Dominik Fuhrmann finished second in the 1,500 meters, Kino Mosley came up just short in the long jump, as did Stacy Andrews in the discus and Kyle Wallace in the pole vault.

All-American long jumper Savante' Stringfellow, who is concentrating on his sprints early in the season, finished third in the 100-yard dash and the 200 meters.

On the women's side, the jumpers came up big for the Lady Rebels. Brandy Barnett won the women's high jump, while All-American Tisha Parker bested the field in the long jump and finished fourth in the triple jump. Indoor All-American Teneeshia Jones finished second in the 100-yard dash and the 200 meters and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Chika Chuka and Cindy Bowling also finished second for the Lady Rebels in the 400 meters and high jump respectively.

Ole Miss will travel back to South Carolina next weekend to participate in the Clemson Relays in Clemson, S.C.
