OXFORD, Miss. - Tennessee Martin jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and then held on to defeat Ole Miss 8-5 and record its first-ever win over the Rebels in nine meetings.

UT Martin (7-22) scored a run in the first and a run in the second before breaking the game open with five runs in the third. The Skyhawks scored all five runs with two outs in the inning as they took advantage of four walks and one Rebel error. Curtis Wooten highlighted the inning with a two-run single to make the score 6-0.

Jonathan Spiceland (1-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Luke Rogers pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his second save of the year.

Casey Fuller (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks.

Ole Miss (15-11) rallied within 7-5, scoring three in the fourth and two in the sixth. Kris Cox delivered two-run singles in both innings as he went 2-for-4 with a career-high four RBI.

Brian Baker gave the UT Martin an insurance run in the eighth with a solo home run, his 10th of the season, for the 8-5 final.

Lanier English went 3-for-5 to pace the Skyhawks' 10-hit attack.

Chad Hill went 2-for-3 along with Cox to lead Ole Miss. Jude Voltz went 1-for-5 to extend his career best hitting streak to 13 games.

Ole Miss returns to action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. to face Mississippi State in the Mayor's Trophy game in Jackson. Fox Sports Net will televise the game.

Freshman right-hander Joseph Liberto is scheduled to start for the Rebels. Liberto is 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA.
