OXFORD, Miss. - Kris Cox and Glen Morris drove in three runs each as Ole Miss completed a two-game sweep of Southeast Missouri State with a 7-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
Sophomore southpaw Nathan Lyons (3-1) allowed one run on four hits and three walks in seven innings of work to earn his third straight win. Lyons also also struck out three.
Freshman Brett Young pitched a scoreless ninth inning and fanned two to earn his first career save.
The Rebels (10-3) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Morris had an RBI double in the first to score Ole Miss' first run of the game, and he and Cox both had two-run singles to produce a four-run second inning.
Cox later added an RBI triple in sixth to increase the Rebels' lead to 7-1.
SEMO (8-4) would rally with three runs in the eighth, with all the runs coming with two outs in the inning. Darin Kinsovling started the rally with a single off reliever Joseph Liberto and Charlie Marino followed with a walk. Phil Warren then doubled to score Kinsolving and Marino would score from third on a passed ball. Jeff Bourbon followed with a single to score Warren and cut the Ole Miss lead to 7-4.
Freshman Matthew Miller came on in relief of Liberto and Zach Borowiak promptly hit a double to left center to put runners on second and third. Miller finally put the Indians' rally to rest by striking out pinch-hitter Shane Allen.
Lanson Debrock (2-2), who entered the game with a 0.45 ERA in 20 innings of work this season, suffered the loss as he was chased after 1 2/3 innings. He was charged with five runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Ole Miss will conclude its brief four-game homestand with a two-game series against nationally-ranked Baylor Tuesday and Wednesday before beginning Southeastern Conference play next Friday at Florida.
