Track Squads Impressive At Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Although competing with only a limited squad, the Ole Miss Rebels and Lady Rebels put up some impressive numbers in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif., Friday afternoon.

Rebel junior Savante' Stringfellow leaped to a new personal best in the long jump, improving his national ranking to second. With a jump of 26-9.25, Stringfellow set both a meet record and track record, surpassing the previous meet record by almost three feet, and the previous track record by over a foot. Stringfellow is second only to Miguel Pate of Alabama, with a mark of 27-1.25, in the NCAA this season.

On the women's side, Lady Rebel junior Teneeshia Jones set meet records in a pair of victories in both the 100 and 200 meters. Her time of 23.47 provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships, and ranks her fourth in the nation and second in the Southeastern Conference this season. She is currently behind only Mikele Barber of South Carolina, Donica Merriman of Ohio State and Chequetta Bearfield of Illinois.

Lady Rebel Brandy Mack also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in winning the 400-meter hurdles. The school record holder in the 400 hurdles raced to a season best time of 58.61 and ranks 11th nationally this season.

Also competing for Ole Miss was Lady Rebels Chika Chuku and Tisha Parker. Chuku finished fourth in the 800 meters with a season best time of 2:09.09, while Parker finished fifth behind Jones in the 200 meters, racing to a season best time of 24.30.

The squad is competing in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., late Saturday evening and all day Sunday.
