April 20, 2000

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams are hosting the Ole Miss Invitational all day Saturday at the track and field complex located just behind Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. This is the only collegiate track and field event that will be held at Ole Miss this year.

Ten teams from around the southeast, including squads from the University of Memphis, Jackson State and Arkansas State, will be competing in the duel meet. The field events are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the hammer throw and running events are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

The meet will feature a key long jump duel between Ole Miss' Savante' Stringfellow, who is currently ranked second in the NCAA this season, and Memphis' Delvit Rogers, who now ranks fourth in the NCAA. Stringfellow, the reigning Southeastern Conference outdoor long jump champion, had two outstanding showings last weekend, setting both the meet and track records in winning the long jump competition at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif., followed by his career best jump in a second place finish at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

For the Lady Rebels, All-Americans Teneeshia Jones and Tisha Parker will highlight the women's competition. Jones, who is coming off victories in the 100 and 200 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays and meet record wins in the 100 and 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, currently ranks seventh in the NCAA in the 200 meters, ninth in the 100 meters and 23rd in the 100-meter hurdles.

Parker, who finished third in the triple jump at the Texas Relays, currently ranks 14th in the nation in the long jump and 15th in the triple jump. Senior Brandy Mack, who picked up an NCAA provisional qualifying mark last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, currently ranks 11th nationally in the 400-meter hurdles. This marks the third consecutive year she has had qualifying marks for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Complete meet results will be posted on the Ole Miss athletic department website, www.OleMissSports.com, after completion of the competition on Saturday.
