Kentucky Shuts Out Ole Miss 3-0

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Freshman right-hander Mark Michael pitched 8 2/3 shutout innings and Breck Price completed the shutout to earn his fourth save of the year as Kentucky blanked Ole Miss 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the rubber-match of the weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series.
The shutout was the first time in 98 conference games that the Rebels failed to score a run. Kentucky was also the last SEC team to shutout the Rebels, blanking them 1-0 in Oxford during the 1997 season.
Michael (4-0) limited the Rebels to the five hits and walked three, while striking out seven.
Ole Miss had runners on second and third in the ninth, as Chad Hill singled and Clint Farrar lifted a two-out double down the left field line. Price then came on in relief and coaxed pinch-hitter Craig Nugen to ground out to third to end the game.
Kentucky got all the offense it would need in the fifth when Price scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Jeff Meade. The Wildcats added another run in the sixth on Robert Newton's RBI single, and added an insurance run in the eighth on Vince Harrison's two-out single to center that scored John Wilson.
Joey Cramblitt (3-5) suffered the loss despite giving the Rebels six-plus solid innings. He was charged with two runs on seven hits and one walk.
Wilson and Seth Morris combined for five of Kentucky's nine hits, as Wilson went 3-for-4 and Morris was 2-for-3.
Chad Hill went 2-for-4 for the Rebels. Jude Voltz was 0-for-4 to see his career-best hitting streak snapped at 16 games.
Ole Miss will open a five-game homestand Tuesday when they host the Louisiana-Monroe Indians at 6:30 p.m. The Rebels return to SEC play next Friday when they open a three-game series with Auburn in Oxford.
