Track Stars Off To Good Start At SEC Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. -- For Ole Miss, the opening day of the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships was a day of personal bests. Between the Lady Rebel pair of Daya Hampton and Fran Goodwin, Ole Miss had five personal bests in eight competitions of the first day of the two day women's heptathlon.

Hampton, who is currently in eighth place overall with 2,998 points, started off the day with personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump, before finishing the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 meters.

Goodwin, who is currently in 11th place overall with 2,745 points, set personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and the 200 meters. Although she stands in 11th place overall going into the final day of competition, her strength is the javelin throw, which will be held on Friday.

Coming into the SEC Championships, Goodwin ranked eighth in the SEC in the heptathlon, while Hampton was close behind in ninth place.

In addition to the conclusion of the heptathlon on Friday, Ole Miss will compete in the men's hammer throw, the preliminaries of the men's and women's 200 and 800 meters and women's 400-meter hurdles.

100-meter hurdles: 8. Daya Hampton, 14.48, 11. Fran Goodwin, 15.24

High Jump: 5. Fran Goodwin, 5-4.5, 5. Daya Hampton, 5-4.5

Shot Put: 9. Fran Goodwin, 32-2, 11. Daya Hampton, 27-9.25

200 meters: 5. Daya Hampton, 25.14, 12. Fran Goodwin, 27.94
