Parker Becomes First Lady Rebel Track & Field Champion

BATON ROUGE, La. - Lady Rebel Tisha Parker became the first ever Ole Miss women 's SEC Track and Field Champion Saturday, winning the long jump competiton with a new school and meet record jump. Ole Miss came up just short of the long jump sweep as Savante ' Stringfellow finished in second place for only the second time this season. The Lady Rebels were in seventh place in the team standings at press time.
Lady Rebel Teneeshia Jones continued breaking her own school records this weekend, as she shattered her mark in the 100 meters, after surpassing her record time in the 200 meters on Friday. Blazing to a time of 11.28, she ran the seventh fastest time in the world this year and just missed the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 11.25. She qualified for the finals just .01 seconds behind leader Peta-Gaye Dowdie of LSU, and is now qualified for both the 100 and 200 meter finals on Sunday.
Parker, who broke her own school record in the long jump with the leap of 21-9, had the second best mark in the NCAA this season and the fourth best leap in the world this year. After redshirting last season, she avenged her second place finish from two years ago, by breaking the 13-year old SEC Championship record of 21-6.5, set by Flora Hyacinth of Arkansas in 1987.
In the men 's long jump competition, Stringfellow once again bested the 27-foot plateau, with a mark of 27-0.5, but fell short of his archrival Melvin Lister of Arkansas, who had the top mark in the world this year at 27-10.25. This was the fourth head-to-head meeting between the pair, who are now ranked first and fourth in the world. With each winning two of the four previous match-ups this season, their final collegiate showdown may come at the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. in two weeks.
In other championship action, a trio of Lady Rebels competed in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, but failed to qualify for the finals. Teneeshia Jones, who holds the school record in the event and is provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships, finished fourth in her heat, while April Rembert finished tied for sixth in her heat and Tarjatta Rose finished in eighth place in her heat.
The Lady Rebel par of Candice Cattron and Dawn Dickerson ran in the preliminaries of the women 's 400 meters. Dickerson finished fourth in her heat and 18th overall, while Cattron finished sixth in her heat and 20th overall, but both failed to qualify for the finals.
On the men 's side, both Kino Mosley and Aaron Fenzel competed in the preliminaries of the men 's 400 meters, but did not qualify for the finals. Mosley finished fifth in his heat and 16th overall, while Fenzel finished sixth in his heat and 17th overall. Hank Campbell competed in the preliminaries of the men 's 1,500 meters, finishing in 22nd place.
In late action on Friday, Stringfellow qualified for the finals in the men 's 200 meters, while Brandy Mack qualified for the finals in the women 's 400-meter hurdles.
On tap for the final day of competition on Sunday, Ole Miss is scheduled to compete in the men 's discus, women 's triple jump, women 's javelin, men 's high jump and pole vault. On the schedule for running events, Ole Miss will compete in the men 's and women 's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays, the women 's 100, 200 and 800-meter finals, the women 's 400-meter hurdle finals and the men 's 200-meter finals.
