Lady Rebels Finish Ninth, Men 10th At SEC Track Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. - As the 2000 SEC Track and Field Championships came to an end Sunday, the Lady Rebels finished in ninth place with their highest team score in school history, while the Rebels finished in 10th position.
For the Lady Rebels, the 2000 championships were one of the best ever at Ole Miss. In addition to having the highest team score in school history, the Lady Rebels also crowned their first ever SEC Champion, when Tisha Parker won the long jump on Saturday, with a school and meet record mark of 21-9.
Junior Teneeshia Jones also aided in the women 's cause, finishing second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. After setting school records in both events on Saturday, she was the highest Lady Rebel point scorer of the championships, with 17.25 individual point.
The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of Jones, Parker, Wanikka Vance and Willette Woods finished in fourth place, while Chika Chuku finished second in the 800 meters, with a personal best time of 2:06.65.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Rebels was an eighth place finish by Daya Hampton in the heptathlon on Friday and a seventh place finish by the 4x400-meter relay.
Also compting for the Lady Rebels on Sunday were Brandy Mack, who entered the 400-meter hurdles finals in second place but false started and was disqualified from the competition, and Fran Goodwin, who finished 10th in the javelin.
On the men's side, senior Kyle Wallace had his best pole vault of the year, to close out his Rebel career with a third place finish, the best of his career.
After finishing second in the men 's long jump on Saturday, junior Savante ' Stringfellow followed it up with a seventh place finish in the high jump, in only his second high jump comptition of the year. He was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished eighth.
Several Rebels and Lady Rebels will have one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships next weekend, before the championships are held June 1-4. Already automatically qualified for the championships are Savante ' Stringfellow and Tisha Parker in the long jump, while Parker is provisionally qualified in the triple jump, Teneeshia Jones is provisionally qualified in the 100 and 200 meters and the 100-meter hurdles, Brandy Mack is provisionally qualified in the 400-meter hurdles, and the women 's 4x100-meter relay team is provisionally qualified.
