Tisha Parker Finishes Seventh In Long Jump At NCAA Championships

DURHAM, N.C. -- Ole Miss track and field junior Tisha Parker of Houston, Texas, posted a seventh place finish in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with a leap of 20-feet , 7.75 inches Thursday night at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

With her seventh-place finish, Parker earns All-America honors for the second time in her career and the first time outdoors. She garnered All-America accolades in the indoor long jump in 1999. Parker becomes the third Lady Rebel outdoor All-American joining Angelia Clay (1996) and Stacy Hudson (1994) on the list.

The 2000 SEC Champion in the long jump, Parker entered the NCAAs with the sixth best jump in the world and second in the NCAA this year. She became the first ever Ole Miss Lady Rebel SEC Champion in either indoor or outdoor track and field. Parker, who holds the school record in the long jump at 21-feet 9 inches, has already qualified for the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials for the Sydney games that will be held in September.

Junior Teneeshia Jones of Shannon, Miss., qualified for Friday night's semifinals of the women's 100-meter dash. Jones finished second in her heat with a time of 11.36, the fourth fastest time of the day. Jones had already advanced to the 200-meter semifinals, which will also be run on Friday. She qualified for the 200 semifinals on the first day with the third fastest time of 23.21.
