Stringfellow Qualifies For Monday's Long Jump Finals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Ole Miss junior Savante' Stringfellow qualified for Monday's finals of the long jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials with a jump of 26-feet-10.5 inches Saturday evening at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Cal-State Sacramento.

Stringfellow, the 2000 NCAA Outdoor champion in the long jump and a former standout at Provine High School in Jackson, Miss., won his flight in the competition and finished second overall. He took just one of his three jumps in the prelims to qualify.

Dwight Phillips turned in the top jump of the evening with a mark of 26-11.25.

Stringfellow and 10 others will compete in Monday evening's finals set for 9:30 p.m., CDT. The top three finishers will advance to represent the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Last year, Stringfellow was a member of the U.S. track & field team that competed at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and the World Championships held in Seville, Spain.
