OXFORD, Miss. - Right-handed pitcher Adam Yates of Jackson, Tenn., has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Ole Miss, head coach Mike Bianco announced Tuesday. Yates will be eligible for the upcoming 2000-2001 academic year.

A 6-foot-4, 200-pound product of Northside Academy, Yates is a three-time all-district, all-region and all-state selection. He went 31-1 during his prep career, including posting a 9-0 mark with a 2.33 ERA last spring during his senior campaign. Yates also fanned 93 while walking 20 in 66 innings of work. As a junior in 1999, Yates went 11-1 with a 1.31 ERA, recording 99 strikeouts to 25 walks in 75 innings. He was named Northside's 2000 Male Athlete of the Year and has been inducted into the Jackson Madison Sports Hall of Fame.

"Adam is an outstanding pitcher that had a tremendous high school career at Northside Academy," Bianco said. "We look for him to continue the success he had at the high school level here at Ole Miss."

Bianco was hired as the Rebels' new head coach on June 7 after three seasons as head coach of McNeese State. He guided the Cowboys to three straight 30-win seasons, including a 39-20 mark last year and made the school's third-ever appearance in a NCAA Regional.
