OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss battled the extreme heat during a two-hour, full-pad practice Tuesday, as the Rebels continue preparations for Saturday's season opener against Tulane.

Saturday's contest with the Green Wave is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field and will be televised by Jefferson Pilot.

Despite the warm weather, head coach David Cutcliffe was pleased with Tuesday's effort.

"I thought our defense moved around better today than (Monday) which I think is because they are getting more and more comfortable with what they're doing," Cutcliffe said. "Our receivers dropped too many balls today, but otherwise I thought we did some good work on offense. We just need to throw and catch the ball more consistently."

Junior linebacker Eddie Strong did not practice with the team Tuesday while suffering from a injury to his left foot. Strong is listed as day-to-day.

Senior punter Reagan King was one of 32 punters, three from the Southeastern Conference, to be named to the Ray Guy Award "watch list." The 2000 season will mark the first year of the award which will be given to the nation's top punter. King has averaged 38.9 yards per punt on 134 attempts in his three years as the Rebels' punter.
