Lady Rebels Place Sixth at Plough Park Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Despite the intense heat, the Ole Miss women's cross country team opened its 2000 campaign on Friday, finishing sixth out of nine competing teams at the two-mile Plough Park Invitational. The Lady Rebels, which finished with 171 points, were led by freshman Corey Laborde, who placed 13th with a time of 12:54.
Sophomore Katy Nailen was the second highest finisher for Ole Miss, as she came in 26th with a time of 13:27. Senior Angela Westbrook was the third Lady Rebel to cross the finish line, placing 50th with at time of 14:30.
The top five scorers for Ole Miss were rounded out by Natalie Gerke and Brandy Mack. Gerke finished in 60th place with at time of 15:13, while Mack came in seven seconds later at 15:20 which was good for 61st place.
Other Lady Rebels competing were Dawn Harden (71st, 17:10), Tarjatta Rose (73rd, 17:20), Cheryl Faubion (74th, 17:25) and April Rembert (77th, 19:54).
Southeast Missouri's Amy Arteme won the meet, helping lead her squad to the team title with 23 points.
The Lady Rebels will continue training this week and have an off weekend (Sept. 8-9) before their next meet at the University of Alabama Sept. 16.
