Ole Miss Volleyball Open SEC Play On The Road

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday, to open Southeastern Conference play against Tennessee at 7 p.m. After taking on the Lady Vols, the Lady Rebels will head to Lexington, Ky., to play Kentucky on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Lady Vols are 9-2 entering Friday's match with Ole Miss. UT has been led this season by junior outside hitter Ariana Wilson, who has tallied 154 kills, 29 digs and 25 blocks in 2000. Junior setter Erica Lear has posted 427 assists and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Hestor has added 139 kills for UT. The Lady Vols own a 21-4 series advantage over Ole Miss after defeating the Lady Rebels, 3-0, last season in Oxford.
The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 2-8 record and are riding a four-match losing streak. Senior middle blocker Megan Weiskircher is leading UK in kills with 119 and digs with 94, while junior setter Whitney Sample is leading the team in assists with 267. Kentucky currently leads the series with the Lady Rebels 21-6 after winning last season's match, 3-2, in Oxford.
Ole Miss is coming off a 2-1 finish at the Memphis Invitational. The Lady Rebels defeated Nicholls State (3-0) and Memphis (3-1) and dropped a match to Syracuse (3-1). Leading the way for Ole Miss in the tournament were senior setter Renata Nowacki and junior outside hitter Jaime Burns, who were both named to the all-tournament team. The award was the second for both this season as Nowacki was named to the UTSA All-Tournament team and Burns was awarded the same honor at the Jayhawk Classic.
The Lady Rebels are 11-11 in SEC openers, including a 3-1 defeat at Alabama last season.
Ole Miss' home-opener is September 29 at 7 p.m against Georgia.
