OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2001 indoor season at the Saluki Booster Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois on Saturday, January 13.
The Rebels will be led by senior All-American Savante' Stringfellow. Stringfellow, who competed in the long jump at the 2000 Olympic Games, is the reigning NCAA outdoor long jump champion and took home the first place long jump medal from last year's Saluki Booster Invitational.
Ole Miss will also be looking for big things from sophomore James Shelton and senior Chad Dixon. Shelton provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash last year and was the second leading scorer for the Rebels during his freshman indoor campaign. Dixon was Ole Miss' top cross country runner in the fall, earning All-Regional honors and was twice named SEC Runner of the Week.
Seniors Teneeshia Jones and Tisha Parker will be leading the Lady Rebel charge in the 2001 season. Jones, the top scorer for Ole Miss in 2000, is a four-time All-American and will be looking to repeat as the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles champion at the Saluki Booster Invitational. Parker, also an All-American, was the second leading scorer for the Lady Rebels last season and joined Jones at the 2000 Olympic Trials last July.
