BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss' Teneeshia Jones was named Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week Tuesday, as announced by the league office.
Jones, a senior from Shannon, Miss., scored 30 points for the Lady Rebels at the Saluki Booster Invitational held January 12-13 in Carbondale, Ill. Jones won the 60-meter dash in a new meet record time of 7.30, breaking the previous meet record of 7.41 set by Andria King of Georgia Tech in 1999. Jones also won the 60-meter high hurdles (8.44) and the 200-meter dash (24.49).
Jones' ranks first in the SEC in both the 60 meters and the 60-meter high hurdles and also has the sixth fastest time in the 200 meters. Her clocking of 7.30 in the 60 meters automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
"Teneeshia has worked harder and become more dedicated every year she has been in this program," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "She worked extremely hard this fall and I am glad to see that it is paying off for her in her early season times."
The Ole Miss track and field teams will compete at the SEC Quad this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. The Rebels and Lady Rebels will compete against host Arkansas and conference rivals Florida and Vanderbilt on Friday, January 19.
