OXFORD, Miss. - After 118 scoreless minutes, Karen Hall ended the Ole Miss-Vanderbilt defensive soccer battle on Sunday with a five-yard score that gave the Rebels a 1-0 double-overtime win - their first ever against the Commodores.

In front of a crowd of 402 and a television audience of countless more, Ole Miss and VU struggled to mount an offensive attack with the two teams combining for 20 total shots in regulation. With only 1:19 remaining in the second and final overtime, UM sophomore Erin Cooper drove along the left baseline and set up Hall in front of the net for the game-winning one-timer.

In only her third start of the season, Hall, a freshman from Southlake Texas, picked up her third goal, while Cooper notched her second assist.

"We did an incredible job against a great team," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "After losing on Friday, we turned it around to win against a team we had never beaten. We played until the very end.

" Lindley Beckman did a great job. She solidifies our defense, and creates a lot of our offensive opportunities in the midfield. She is an all-around team player."

Senior Melinda Smith, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, collected four saves for the Rebels (9-6-1, 4-2 SEC) in collecting her third shutout in the last four games. For the 'Dores (5-7-0, 3-4 SEC), Lauren Whitt totaled six saves in goal.

Ole Miss improves to 6-0 on Sundays this season, and have picked up wins in two of their last three TV appearances, both of which on FOX Sports Net. It was the Rebels' first victory in four meetings against the Vanderbilt program.

On Friday night, Kristal Menard pulled the Rebels within one goal of Kentucky, but Ole Miss could get no closer in a 2-1 loss that ended UM's three-game SEC winning streak. However, the Rebels end the weekend with only two losses in their 10 games.

Next up for the SEC West-leading Ole Miss squad is two more Eastern Division opponents. The Rebels travel to Columbia to tangle with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday at 6 p.m. CST and follow up with the ninth-ranked Florida Gators in Gainesville Sunday at 1.
