Final Stats

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Rebel Kristin Chapman's last second shot was stopped by a diving goalkeeper save as South Carolina pulled out a 1-0 soccer win over Ole Miss Friday night at Eugene Stone Stadium. It was the sixth straight one-goal game for the Rebels (9-7-1, 4-3 SEC) and only the second loss over that stretch.

After battling back and forth for 86 scoreless minutes, South Carolina (7-6-3, 2-5-1 SEC) jumped ahead when Becca Epstein (2) drove home a Jessica Julin throw-in from 20 yards away. Ole Miss narrowly missed tying the game when Lindley Beckman's corner kick set up Chapman in front of the goal for the shot and save with three seconds remaining.

The Ole Miss squad was again hit by injury Friday when leading-scorer Tiffany Weiss went down with a concussion in the 79th minute, halting play for 15 minutes as medical staff attended. The sophomore from Dallas, will miss the Florida game on Sunday and her return this season is questionable. The Rebels have already lost three players to season-ending injuries this year.

USC came out of the gates on the attack, controlling offensive opportunities in the first half. The Gamecocks held a 6-3 shot advantage at the break and drew six offsides penalties. Ole Miss battled back after halftime with Chapman and Karen Hall both coming close on scoring chances. Shots finished even at 10-10.

UM goalie Melinda Smith collected four saves in the first 45 minutes and finished with seven on the night.

"Obviously it's a very disappointing loss but right now our main concern is the well-being of Tiffany," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We came out stronger in the second half, but had difficulty converting our opportunities. Carolina is a very good team and much better than their SEC record might indicate."

Ole Miss faces its third straight SEC Eastern Division foe Sunday in No. 11 Florida. The Gators host the Rebels Sunday at 12:30 ET in Gainesville.
