Ole Miss Cross Country Teams Finish Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - ,The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams completed their 2001 seasons Saturday at the NCAA South Regional Meet hosted by UAB and Alabama.
Leading the way for the Ole Miss women was freshman Erin Jordan. Jordan finished the 6,000 meter course with a time of 24:46.16, to finish in 102nd place. Hank Campbell was the top Rebel finisher as he came in 63rd place with a time of 33:23.85 in the 10,000 meter race.
In the women's 6,000 meter event, Renee Metivier of Georgia Tech captured individual honors finishing with a time of 20:20.39. Metivier was followed by Jenn Feenstra (20:55.20) of Georgia State, Janet Rono (21:15.28) of Southern Miss and Vicky Gill (21:17.50) of Florida State. Alexis Hamblet (21:18.77) of Auburn rounded out the top-five for the women.
Georgia Tech ran away with the team title finishing with 54 points, 48 points ahead of second place South Florida (102). Florida State (113) finished third while Belmont (140) and Vanderbilt (146) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the men's 10,000 meter event, top honors went to David Kimani of Alabama finishing with a time of 30:06.43. William Kemey of Belmont was a close second with 30:10.01, followed by Peter Kiprono (30:52.39) of Alabama, Ryan Demers (30:55.31) of Tennessee and Joep Tigchelaar (31:00.67) of Florida State.
The team title in the men's race went to Alabama with 55 points. Tennessee captured second place with 84 points, one point ahead of third place finisher Florida State. Finishing fourth was Georgia Tech (90), followed by Florida (154) in fifth.
