OXFORD, Miss.- Chantelle Anderson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the No. 18 Vanderbilt Commodores past Ole Miss 72-58 in Southeastern Conference action Sunday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum. Anderson was 10-of-12 from the field. Jillian Danker added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including five threes. Zuzi Klimesova recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also dished out six assists.
Ole Miss was led by Sherika Wright's 11 points. Chandra Dorsey added 10 points and six rebounds in the loss. Freshman Tywanna Inmon finished with nine points and seven rebounds on the day.
"We talked about coming out and playing well to get a win and get back in the middle of the pack in the SEC,? head coach Ron Aldy said. "But, knew, if we allowed them to set the tone it was going to be an uphill battle. They set the tone early with their effort and rebounding and we didn?t match that.?
Vanderbilt jumped out to a 17-6 lead at the 12:21 mark of the first half. The Lady Rebels cut it to eight (17-9) with 11:40 to go in the half on a three-pointer by Dorsey. Vanderbilt went back up by 16 with 4:31 to go on a three by Danker and led 34-19 at the break.
The Commodores used a 26-3 run to start the second half as they built a 30-point lead 52-22 at the 13:59 mark. Coach Aldy inserted a different lineup and the Lady Rebels were able to cut it to 15 with 3:25 left in the game on a 26-11 run, and had the ball, but the Commodores? Jenni Benningfield buried a three and the Lady Rebels never got any closer.
Vanderbilt shot 51.9 percent for the game and 40.9 from behind the arc. Ole Miss finished at 34.3 percent on just 23-of-67 shooting, and shot only 26.1 percent from the three-point line. "They (Vanderbilt) had open looks and they were successful in knocking them down,? Aldy added. "We came back in the second half wanting to cut six or eight points off the lead and suddenly it?s up to 30. We put a group on the floor that made an effort to comeback and I am proud of that.? The Lady Rebels return to Tad Smith Coliseum Thursday as they host the nationally-ranked Florida Lady Gators. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
