MONTRENES NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Junior RHP Pete Montrenes was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office. He pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out a career-high 10 during his last start, a 1-0 victory over SE Missouri State this past Saturday. In 12 innings during two starts this season, Montrenes hasn't allowed a run. He is 2-0 with 17 strikeouts to only four walks, and opponents are hitting .105 against him.
IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss received six votes in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25 to finish tied for 18th among "Other Receiving Votes."

LAST TIME OUT: Ole Miss and SE Missouri State split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Oxford. The Rebels won the opener 14-3 before dropping the nightcap 5-2. Ole Miss scored 13 runs in the fifth and sixth inning to build a 14-1 lead. Junior LHP Mike Gray (1-0) picked up his first career victory, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, and struck out four. In the nightcap, Denver Stuckey's two-run single highlighted a four-run seventh as SEMO rallied for the win. Ole Miss stranded nine runners on base, including six in scoring position. Senior RHP Ronnie Goodwin pitched six solid innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk, while fanning five in taking a no decision.
SCOUTING THE GOVERNORS: Austin Peay enters tonight's game with a 3-0 mark after sweeping Xavier (OH) this past weekend at home. The Governors are hitting .277 as a team with three HRs and outscored the Musketeers 11-7 in the series. Senior INF D.W. Blakeman leads the team with a .500 (4x8) average and has one HR and two RBI. As a team, Austin Peay has a 1.88 ERA (24.0 IP, 5 ER), and Xavier (OH) hit .233 in the series last weekend against Governor pitching.
SERIES INFO: Tonight's meeting is the 10th all-time between Ole Miss and Austin Peay dating back to 1993 ... The Rebels lead the series 7-2 and have won three straight, including 9-4 last year on April 26 in Oxford ... The Governors' last win in the series was 15-4 on Feb. 17, 1998 in Oxford ... Austin Peay's only other win in the series also came in Oxford, 6-2, on April 24, 1996 ... Ole Miss is 5-2 against the Governors in Oxford and 2-0 in Clarksville, Tenn ... The Rebels have outscored Austin Peay 69-49 in the series.
OLE MISS VS. THE OHIO VALLEY: The Rebels are 54-12 (.818 winning percentage) all-time versus teams from the Ohio Valley Conference. The Rebels are 2-1 versus the OVC this year after winning 2-of-3 from SE Missouri State this past weekend. In addition's to tonight's game with Austin Peay, Ole Miss is also scheduled to play OVC foe UT-Martin on Feb. 27 in Oxford. The Rebels were 4-1 against the OVC last season, sweeping two games from SEMO, splitting two games with UT-Martin, and defeating Austin Peay once. AFTER EIGHT GAMES LAST YEAR: Ole Miss was 6-2 after eight games last season ... The Rebels had a ..308 batting average (69x224) with nine HRs, 56 RBI, 16 doubles and five triples ... Ole Miss had outscored its opponents 62-38 ... The Rebels stole 2-of-5 bases and had hit into four double plays ... Ole Miss pitchers had a 3.77 ERA (62.0 IP, 26 ER), allowing 55 hits, including four HRs, walked 32 and struck out 58 ... The Rebels had committed nine errors through eight games.
SCORELESS INNING STREAK SNAPPED: The Ole Miss pitching staff strung together a streak of 21 2/3 scoreless innings last week, before it was snapped in the fourth inning of game one in Sunday's doubleheader with SE Missouri State. It was the longest such streak since the Rebels held UT-Martin scoreless for 21 1/3 innings in a three-game series to open the 1995 season. After holding SE Lousiana scoreless in the final two innings of game one in last Wednesday's twinbill, freshman RHP Adam Yates tossed a complete-game, seven-inning shutout in the nightcap. On Saturday, Pete Montrenes and Nathan Lyons combined on a nine-inning whitewash of SE Missouri State to stretch the streak to 18. The Indians finally broke the string with a two-out, two-run double by Jeff Bourbon in the fourth inning in game one on Sunday.

* This is Ole Miss' first night game of the season. Last year the Rebels were 16-13 (.552 winning percentage) at night, including 10-8 (.556 winning percentage) at home.
* Ole Miss starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 2.89 ERA (43.2 IP, 14 ER) in eight games this season.

* Faced the minimum through seven innings versus the Lions, and struck out a season-high four.
* The one-hit performance was the first complete game one-hitter by an Ole Miss pitcher since Albert Ward one-hit Illinois Wesleyan on March 27, 1980.
LAST START: Tossed a seven-inning, complete-game, one-hitter of SE Louisiana (2/14) in his first career start to earn a 9-0 win ... The victory was the first of his career ... Used 73 pitches, throwing 49 for strikes ... Struck out a season-high four versus the Lions ... SE Louisiana's only hit was a one-out single to right field by Jake Leba in the second inning ... Retired 10 straight following Leba's base hit until issuing a lead-off walk to Joey Duhe in the sixth ... Duhe was the only other Lion to reach base against Yates ...
