Baseball Falls to Georgia in Series Finale
4/26/2026 | Baseball
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss baseball dropped Sunday's rubber match to Georgia, 5-1, at Swayze Field.
Despite a quality start from Taylor Rabe, the Rebels (31-14, 11-10 SEC) offense never found a rhythm against the Bulldog (34-11, 15-6 SEC) pitching staff. Ole Miss had only five hits from three Rebels on the day.
Rabe and Georgia's Caden Aoki were locked into a pitcher's duel from the jump. Rabe worked 6.0 innings where he fanned six and walked none but gave up Georgia's first three runs of the game. He allowed nine hits, but strong defense helped to keep the Rebels in the game.
Tristan Bissetta and Owen Paino each went 2-for-4 on the day. Brayden Randle had Ole Miss' other hit to wrap the series with five and one in each game.
Dom Decker scored the first run of the ballgame from third base, after Judd Utermark grounded into a double play. Georgia responded over the course of the next two innings, taking a 2-1 lead into the fourth inning.
Neither team mustered any runs until Georgia tacked another on in the seventh off a sacrifice fly. In that timeframe, Rabe had kept the Bulldogs in check. Walker Hooks entered in relief and fanned a few to keep Ole Miss in striking distance.
Hooks remained on the mound for the remainder of the game. He gave up two unearned runs after Ole Miss committed a fielding error with one out in the top of the ninth. The inning prior, the Rebels had an opportunity to take a lead with the bases loaded but were unable to put a ball in play.
Ole Miss and Mississippi State will compete for the Governor's Cup on Tuesday, with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. CT.
