RUSTON, La. - Craig Simmons went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Jake Adams hit a three-run home run in the second inning to power Louisiana Tech to a 7-4 win over Ole Miss and salvage the final game of the three-game weekend series.
The loss snapped the Rebels' (9-3) three-game win streak, while the Bulldogs (8-5) ended their three-game skid.
Bulldog starter Adam Kirkendall (2-0) went six innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and walked six, while striking out two.
Trailing 5-0, Ole Miss received solo home runs from Josh Christian, Lance Jones and Burney Hutchinson to trim the Louisiana Tech lead to 5-4. Christian led-off the sixth inning with a home run to straight away center, and Jones and Hutchinson hit back-to-back solo shots to start the seventh.
The Bulldogs received a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Wade Robinson doubled to lead-off the inning and Simmons followed with a RBI single. Simmons later scored on Dan Preaus' one-out double to make it 7-4.
Ole Miss starter Ronnie Goodwin (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings.
Carl Lafferty went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Rebels as they out-hit Louisiana Tech 12-10. However, Ole Miss stranded 13 runners on base, including 11 in the final six innings.
Ole Miss will return to action Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., when the Rebels host UT-Martin at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
