Softball Rebels Fall to Kansas in Extra Innings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Ole Miss softball team fell to Kansas, 5-4, in nine innings Saturday in day three of the Lobo Diamond Invitational. Ole Miss closes out play in the tournament Sunday, facing No. 14 Cal State-Fullerton at 10 a.m. (CT).
Down 3-2, the Rebels (1-4) rallied in the seventh inning when Jamie Cummings tripled and was driven home on Amanda Lehotak's ground ball. Ole Miss struck again in the eighth off Jennifer Poore's RBI-single. Poore, a freshman from San Diego, was 2-for-3 in the game.
However, KU (2-1) answered in the bottom of the inning when a two-out Rebel error sent home Amy Hulse. Kansas sealed the win on a Kelly Campbell run-scoring basehit in the ninth. Campbell was one of five Jayhawks with two hits.
Ole Miss scored first when Holly Burris tripled home Kristi DiMarco in the first inning. Burris and DiMarco each finished with a pair of hits. Lindsay Price (1-2) suffered the loss in relief of Leslie Day.
In the early game, Colorado State posted a four-run third inning en route to a 5-2 win over the Rebels. Jennie Orozco's three-run homer was the difference for the Rams (1-2).
UM freshman Britte Hardy went 2-for-3 with an RBI in her first career start. Jennifer Hughes (0-2) went the distance, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in the loss.
