Men's Tennis Defeats Memphis, 5-2

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 10 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team defeated the University of Memphis 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center to improve to 2-0 on the year, as they get ready for the Mississippi Cup.
Ole Miss won the doubles point in three hotly-contested matches. Alex Hartman and Patrick Chucri defeated Michael Chamberlain and Joe Schmulian 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Paul Ciorascu and Conor Casey went to a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles against Jack Hu and Michael LaHaie. With the Rebel duo up 7-6 in the breaker, Casey served an ace to clinch the match and the doubles point for Ole Miss.
Shortall gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Chamberlain at No. 2 singles. Hartman defeated Schmulian in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the top spot, to make it 3-0 Ole Miss, and then Kristofer Stahlberg clinched the Rebel victory by beating Richard Magney 7-6(9), 6-4, at No. 3 singles.
Memphis' two points came at No. 4 and 6 singles. Ben Stapp handed Rebel freshman Ciorascu a 7-6(3), 6-3 loss and Michael LaHaie defeated Jackson native Jim Jacobs, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Conor Casey won his second dual match rallying to beat Alistair Todd, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
The Rebels will now get ready to face the No.15 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in the fourth Mississippi Cup at River Hills Club in Jackson, Thursday. The match begins at 5:00 p.m., and fans can call (601) 987-4455 for tickets. Ole Miss claimed the cup last year with an exciting 4-2 win.
