Lady Rebels Drop 6-1 Decision At Vanderbilt

The 30th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team could not carry over the momentum from a huge win on Friday, as they dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 8 ranked Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon.
Vanderbilt took a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point with wins at all three positions. They carried that momentum into singles where they won five of the six matches in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Julie DeRoo lost to Julie Ditty 6-4, 6-1. Vandy's Sarah Riske defeated Lady Rebel freshman Hanna-Katri Aalto 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Junior Alesya Ignatieva was the lone winner on the day for the Lady Rebels, defeating Jenny Miller 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Kate Burson downed Mira Radu 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, Aleke Tsoubanos beat Karem Harboe 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot, and Kelly Schmandt won 6-2, 6-1 over Audra Adams on court six to close out the scoring.
The Lady Rebels went 1-1 on this road trip after an exciting 4-3 win over No. 18 ranked William & Mary on Friday. William & Mary won the doubles point, but the Lady Rebels came out strong in singles and Harboe clinched the match with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles.
Ole Miss continues on the road at South Carolina on March 23 before heading home to play Alabama on March 27.
