OXFORD, Miss. - After a 3-1 week that included a three-game Southeastern Conference sweep of Alabama, Ole Miss moved upward into the top 20 in all three of this week's major college baseball polls.
The Rebels are ranked as high as No. 16 in Collegiate Baseball's Top 30, up three spots from last week, and rose as much as seven spots in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll from No. 24 to No. 17. Ole Miss jumped two spots in this week's Baseball America Top 25 from No. 21 to No. 19.
"We're excited to break the top 20 in all three major college baseball polls," said first-year head coach Mike Bianco. "I'm very happy for our players that they are receiving national recognition for their accomplishments during the first half of the season. The players realize, however, that there is a long ways to go in the year and we must continue to improve and play well."
Ole Miss is 21-6-1 overall this season, including 7-2 in the SEC. The Rebels are in sole possession of first place in the SEC Western Division, a game ahead of LSU. Ole Miss will play Mississippi State (13-9) Wednesday night in Jackson, Miss., at 6:30 p.m., in the annual Mayor's Trophy game at Smith-Wills Stadium. FOX Sports Net will televise Wednesday's game.
The Rebels will return to SEC play on Friday when Ole Miss opens a three-game home series with Georgia (17-6, 6-3 SEC). Game time Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
