OXFORD, Miss. - Off to its best 15-game start since 1968, the Ole Miss baseball team received its first national ranking since the 1999 season when the Rebels checked in at No. 29 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll.
The Rebels are 12-3 on the year after winning games against St. Francis (NY), Arizona, and nationally-ranked Southern Miss in this past weekend's Ole Miss Invitational. The 1968 squad started the year 13-2.
Ole Miss also received votes in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll for the third straight week. The Rebels garnered 62 votes to finish first among "Others Receiving Votes."
During the 2000-2001 school year, Ole Miss has been nationally ranked at least one week in the sports of football, men's basketball and baseball. The Rebel football team spent four weeks this fall in one of the two major college football polls, and the Ole Miss men's basketball team is ranked No. 11 in this week's ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 and No.14 in The Associated Press Top 25.
The Ole Miss baseball team is scheduled to return to action Wednesday night against Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m., in Jonesboro, Ark. The Rebels will then return home to open Southeastern Conference play Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., versus Kentucky.
