April 15, 2001
BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss track and field teams had several dominant performances at Saturday's LSU Alumni Gold track meet. Led by seniors Teneeshia Jones, Tisha Parker and Savante' Stringfellow, Ole Miss recorded six first place finishes and 15 top five finishes.
Stringfellow continues to dominate the scene in 2001 as he collected two first place finishes. He won the long jump with a distance of 26-11.75 and also won the 200 meters with a time of 20.74. Stringfellow's 200-meter time was a new personal best and provisionally qualified him for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He had already automatically qualifed for the championships in the long jump. Stringfellow also led the 4x100-meter relay team to a second place finish (40.01).
Chad Dixon collected the other Rebel first place finish in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase (9:19.90). Dixon also took fourth place in the 5,000 meters (15:18.53). Stacy Andrews took second place in the discus throw (162-0). James Shelton finished fourth in the 100 meters (10.45). The Rebel 4x400-meter relay team crossed the line in fifth place (3:12.66).
Jones and Parker got the Lady Rebels on the board by setting new Ole Miss records in their respective events. Jones won the 200 meters in a new Ole Miss record time of 23.05, while Parker set a new Ole Miss record in the long jump by leaping 21-5.5. Both performances automatically qualified Jones and Parker for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Jones also finished second in the 100 meters (11.31). The two joined forces in leading the Ole Miss 4x100-meter relay team to a second place finish (45.70).
Brandy Mack finished first in the 400-meter hurdles (59.61) and Tarjatta Rose was close behind as she finished third (1:01.80). Brandy Barnett took second in the high jump (5-7) and the 4x400-meter relay finished fifth (3:46.39). Willette Woods finished fifth in the 200 meters (23.95).
The Ole Miss track and field teams will split up next weekend as some members will travel to California for the Mount SAC Relays and the Pomona Relays, while other members will travel to Memphis.
