OXFORD, Miss. - An Ole Miss seventh-inning rally fell short in game two of a doubleheader with Georgia, as the Bulldogs take both games of a softball twin bill, 2-0 and 3-2, Saturday at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Rebels (17-36, 4-19 SEC) play their final home game of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) on Senior Day. The five Ole Miss seniors - Jamie Cummings, Rachel Davenport, Mackenzie Emel, Jennifer Hughes and Tina Sclafani - will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
In Saturday's second game, UGA (27-24, 7-16 SEC) struck first with Kristen Bell's RBI-triple in the fourth. Ole Miss answered with a run in the fifth, when Holly Burris singled and reached home on a two-out Bulldog fielding error.
The game would remain knotted at 1-1 until the top of the seventh, when Georgia plated two runs. Alyssa Mauro tripled home a score, and Julie Raiskmus followed with an RBI-single to put the Bulldogs up 3-1.
Burris led off the seventh with her second home run of the season to cut the lead to one but the Rebels' seventh-inning rally would fall short. A native of Germantown, Tenn., Burris finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs-scored.
In game one, Burris (2-12) pitched six strong innings, scattering nine hits and two runs. However, UGA hurler Nicole Urban (11-6) matched her in the one-hit shutout.
Julie Milner hit 2-for-3 and drove in both Bulldog runs, on a RBI-groundout in the first and a run-scoring single in the fourth. Kristi DiMarco singled to centerfield in the fifth for the Rebels' lone hit.
Freshman catcher Jennifer Poore picked off a pair of baserunners to run her total to 10 on the season, which is believed to be tops in the nation.
