Rebels Drop Doubleheader At No. 5 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss softball team dropped a doubleheader against fifth-ranked LSU Saturday at Tiger Park. The Rebels (18-38, 5-21 SEC) play their final conference game of the 2001 season Sunday at noon (CT) in game three of the series.
In the second game, Ole Miss hurler Lindsay Price (5-11) held the Tigers scoreless through three innings, before LSU (46-8, 23-3 SEC) ignited for four runs in the fourth en route to an 8-1 win. Dee Douglas opened the rally with a two-run single and finished the doubleheader 7-for-8 with three RBI and three runs.
Ole Miss plated a run in the sixth when Holly Burris drove home Amanda Lehotak with her team-high 13th double of the season. Desiree Layman also notched a hit for the Rebels.
LSU took game one, 8-0, on Britney Sneed?s (28-5) fourth career no-hitter. The game ended in the sixth inning after a Stephanie Hastings two-run homer gave the Tigers the eight-run mercy rule.
Jennifer Hughes (10-13) scattered 10 hits and struck out seven in the loss.
