Softball Falls To No.5 LSU In Series Finale

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss softball team fell to No. 5 LSU Sunday, 11-1, in the Rebels final SEC game of the season. The Tigers (47-8, 24-3 SEC) sweep the three-game set.
Ole Miss (18-39, 5-22 SEC) jumped on the board with a run on the first inning. Amanda Lehotak walked and then scored on a Jennifer Poore double to left field. Poore, a freshman from San Diego, hit 2-for-3 in the game.
LSU responded with a three in the bottom of the first with two coming on an April Janzen home run. The Tigers added four more in the third, highlighted by Christy Connor?s three-run homer, and four more in the fourth to earn the eight-run mercy rule.
Ashley Lewis (17-3) picked up her second win of the series, while Holly Burris (2-13) lasted two innings in the loss. Lindsay Price tossed two innings of relief for the Rebels.
Ole Miss wraps up the 2001 season Wednesday in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Rebels will be taking on the Salukis of Southern Illinois at 5 p.m. (CT).
