NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior right-hander Steven Faulkner struck out a career-high 13 in eight innings of work to pitch Vanderbilt to a 7-3 win over No. 10 Ole Miss and salvage the final gam e of the weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series at Charles Hawkins Field at the McGugin Center.

The Rebels (34-14-1, 16-8 SEC) entered the day tied with LSU for first place in the overall Southeastern Conference standings. The Tigers and Alabama were in a rain delay in Tuscaloosa with LSU leading 8-1 in the eighth inning when the Ole Miss-Vanderbilt game concluded.

Faulkner (5-3) held the Rebels to three runs, one earned, on six hits and three walks in earning the win. Freshman right-hander Robert Ransom finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Ole Miss starter Mike Gray (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. He also struck out three.

Sean Luellwitz put Vanderbilt up 2-0 in the first with a two-out, two-run home run. The homer was his sixth of the season.

The Commodores (22-25, 8-16 SEC) took advantage of two Rebel errors to score two more runs in the fifth, and added three in the sixth to build a 7-0 lead.

Josh Christian hit a two-run double in the eighth to highlight a three-run inning for Ole Miss to provide the 7-3 final.

Vanderbilt had four players record two hits each as the Commodores out-hit the Rebels 10-6.

Senior third baseman Lance Jones accounted for half of Ole Miss' hit total, going 3-for-5. Burney Hutchinson went 0-for-4 to snap his career-best 12-game hitting streak.

The Rebels will return to action Tuesday night when they host Mississippi Valley State at 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. All general admission tickets will be $1, and fans can also use any unused season tickets.

Ole Miss will return to SEC play next Friday, opening a three-game series at Tennessee.
